Charu is a Conservative Councillor for Weybridge St George’s Hill since May 2018.
At the Borough, Charu serves on the South Area Planning Sub Committee, Climate advisory board and Licensing. She is also the Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment.
Charu says: "At the outset, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your support during the last four years that I have been your councillor for Weybridge St George’s Hill. Representing our community is an honour and a responsibility which I have taken on seriously and with full commitment.
"I have played a full part in the social, political and community life in Weybridge. This includes my successful campaign to force the Elmbridge RA-Liberal Democrat administration to reopen the local paddling pools and opposing their hike in taxi license fees. I have also worked in partnership with Mercedes Benz to remove the Debris from River Wey and secured the resurfacing of St George’s Avenue.
"At the Council I am the Conservative’s Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment. I was previously the shadow for Social Affairs, and I have served on committees including planning and licensing, and on the council’s climate change working group.
"My work for Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Association includes serving as its Events Officer and chairman of the Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Woman Organisation. I founded Weybridge in Bloom in 2018 to encourage civic pride in Weybridge and my key highlight for last year has been regenerating the landscape at Monument Hill.
"During the pandemic I started the SEW Weybridge group making scrubs for our NHS staff and obtained government grants for local businesses, as well as running litter picks at the cricket green and delivering meals on wheels and for foodbanks. I also raised funds for victims of domestic violence, which spiked in the pandemic.
"I am seeking re-election because lots more needs to be done in Weybridge. I want to help develop the regeneration plan for the Weybridge hospital site and high street, reinstating the doctor’s surgery and better medical facilities. I will oppose the LD-RA parking increases and back our businesses, while also protect the character of our area and looking after the vulnerable.
"Outside of local politics, I am a mother of three school age daughters and a resident of Weybridge since 2011. Professionally, I support my husband in his company as a Director and responsible for HR and Recruitment activities. In addition to work and family, I have always endeavoured to stay involved in the local community and supported charitable causes and events."
