Cllr Jonathan Wilson

Runnymede & Weybridge Conservative Association is saddened to announce the death of our friend and colleague, Cllr Jonathan Wilson. The circumstances of Jonathan's death are unclear at this stage, but we are in contact with his family, to whom we extend our deepest condolences.

Jonathan was first elected to Runnymede Borough Council in May 2008 to represent the Egham Hythe ward. He served the area for a decade before being elected as a councillor for Addlestone South in 2019 and was re-elected in 2022.

Cllr Peter Snow, Leader of the Conservative Group at Runnymede and Jonathan's co-ward councillor, paid tribute to him as a "calming influence in the turbulent times of our council".

He added: "Jonathan was so often the voice of reason. He was passionate about his residents and dedicated to the committees he served on, his interest and knowledge was wide and well-versed, from licensing to planning always well read on the committee papers.

"During the 2014 floods, Jonathan was an integral part of unifying the residents effort in the formation of the Egham Hythe flood relief centre, dedicating many hours for the centre to remain a positive function for residents who basically lost everything. No job was to big or small he loaded the pallets, vans, stacked the hall made the tea, swept the floor or simply sat and comforted those who just needed someone to listen.

"Jonathan was kind, generous, and always supportive. He had many loves, be it a fine bottle of wine, the best steak restaurant or a particular favourite of his, a local Italian restaurant in Egham for his skate wing. Through all of this he was always good company."

We will remember Jonathan as an excellent councillor, a champion for his residents, and a great friend with an infectious dry wit. His dedication and kindness will endure.
