Runnymede & Weybridge Conservative Association won seven seats (out of a possible 14) at the local elections on Thursday 7th May 2026, bucking the national trend and showing the support locally for experienced, caring councillors with a focus keeping taxes low and delivering quality services.
In Cobham & Oxshott South ward, councillors David Lewis and Alan Parker capped off a very strong and well-organised campaign by topping the polls with 2,855 and 2,469 votes respectively, comfortably ahead of the Liberal Democrats and securing places at the new East Surrey Council.
In Runnymede, councillors Mark Nuti and Shannon Saise-Marshall were elected to represent Chertsey and the new West Surrey Council, seeing off the challenge of Reform UK.
Cllr Jonathan Hulley, secured election to the new council in the new Thorpe Longcross & Ottershaw ward, with Reform UK taking the second seat. It was a fine win for Jonathan and deserved recognition of his service for local residents but disappointing that Jonathan's running mate Roberto Buono fell short despite a hard fought campaign.
We also won both seats in Woodham & New Haw ward with Cllr Scott Lewis and his running mate Josh Brown, with the Lib Dems' prospective parliamentary candidate finishing a distant fourth. It was a victory for Dr Ben Spencer MP and the local team who focused relentlessly on local quality of life issues in the ward, to keep the area moving forwards.
Sadly there was disappointment in Egham where our hard working candidates Rahul Joglekar and John Osborn lost out to the local Independents and Reform but have put down a strong foundation for future success. And in Weybridge where our councillors Hilary Butler and Alistair Mann were runners-up to the Liberal Democrats, though comfortably ahead of Reform, Greens, Independents and Labour.
Our colleagues from neighbouring Windsor Conservative Association delivered an emphatic win in the Runnymede ward of Englefield Green & Virginia Water, propelling councillors Marisa Heath and Chris Howorth back into office with thumping majorities over the Lib Dems and Reform.
Over the coming months the newly elected councillors will be responsible for making the necessary arrangements for a smooth transition from the current councils to the new unitaries on 1st April next year.
Our deepest thanks and gratitude to everyone who supported their Conservative candidates on 7th May and we will do our very best to fight for our residents as the principle opposition to the Lib Dem majorities in East/West Surrey in the coming years.
