We are delighted to confirm that Cllr Sam Jenkins has joined the Conservative group at Runnymede Borough Council, becoming our first councillor in Egham Town ward in four decades.
Sam was elected under the Runnymede Independent Residents’ Group banner in 2022 but was recently removed from that group owing to "recent differences of opinion", leaving him politically homeless.
After careful consideration Sam applied to join the Conservatives and we were very pleased to welcome him, knowing his reputation as a caring and hard working champion for his residents in Egham.
Sam has released a video on Facebook setting out his reasons and assuring residents that his commitment to residents is "unwavering and unchanged".
In it he says: "By joining the Conservatives I will have more professional backing to push for policies that will make a difference, support our town and drive positive change. It will also put me in a stronger position to support our local MP Dr Ben Spencer as he takes Network Rail to task over the issue of level crossing downtimes. I am joining a competent and experienced organisation that will enable me to be best champion for residents in Egham that I can be."
Sam intends to continue running surgeries, keeping residents informed, running litter picks and fighting for Egham's interests in the Council Chamber. Welcome Sam!
