Dr Ben Spencer, MP for Runnymede & Weybridge, has hailed an important step forward in protecting the Thames and homes in Chertsey from sewage.
In 2022 Ben visited Chertsey Sewerage Works and raised the need for it to increase capacity to prevent future flooding and protect local families. We are delighted that this has now happened, with a giant storage tank now built.
Ben was shown it when he visited the Sewerage Works again before Christmas and he made the following comments.
"We all know the consequence of building ever more homes on top of outdated infrastructure without the necessary upgrades. In recent years we have seen repeated sewage overflows into our rivers and even homes flooded.
"In 2022 I visited the Chertsey sewage plant and raised the need to increase capacity to prevent this happening more and more in years to come, and I am pleased to say this has now been achieved!"
There is more to be done, including further infrastructure upgrades needed and a commitment to ensure future housing development is matched with increases in essential infrastructure.
Dr Ben Spencer and local Conservatives will continue to press for these to be delivered.
